Biography

Elisavet Georgiou was born in Thessaloniki, Greece. She obtained her MD at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Early during her studies she showed an interest in molecular mechanisms of disease and later, during the PhD studies, more specifically in epigenetics. Following her residency in Haematology, she worked as a post- doc researcher in the Centre for Hematology, Imperial College London, with special interest in epigenetic modifications in inherited GPI deficiency and other red blood cell disorders, with the support of the Foundation of the Greek Haematology Society. After working as a consultant in the Haematology Department in ‘Papageorgiou’ Hospital, Thessaloniki, she moved to the Department of Biological Chemistry in the Medical School of Aristotle University. She is currently Assistant Professor of Medical Biochemistry and her research interests lie in the field of epigenetic control of gene expression in human disease (neoplastic and non-neoplastic).
