Dr. Alexandra Karagianni graduated from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with a BA Degree in History and Archaeology. She received a MA Degree in Byzantine Art and Archaeology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and another MA Degree in Medieval Art at Université Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne. In 2010 she received her PhD in Byzantine Art and Archaeology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Later she completed her Postdoctoral research on “Lakeside Settlements of North-Western Macedonia” at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and I.R.E.S.T. (Paris). In 2015 she obtained the certificate of tourist guide by the Hellenic Ministry of Tourism. As an adjunct lecturer at the University of Western Macedonia, she taught history of medieval and byzantine art (2011-2013). She was also a scientific collaborator on history of medicine at the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2006-2008).
She attended intensive plenary lectures at Universities of Cambridge, Poitiers, and Venice, and at Institutes of Rome, and Florence. She spoke at twelve International congresses and published thirteen articles in European and American historical journals and seven articles in medical journals. Since 2015 she is working as a secretary at MSc “Medical Research Methodology” at the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She speaks four foreign languages, English (C2), French (C2), Italian (C2), and German (B1). She is married to Assistant Professor of Byzantine history Georgios Charizanis.
